Lightfoot

The Lightfoot family are one of the original growers and winemakers in Gippsland, first planting vines back in 1995. Brothers Rob and Tom Lightfoot now lead a progressive team in the vineyard and winery, crafting wines that not only speak of the site and the season, but also their enthusiasm to make a diversity of styles. Their Myrtle Point Vineyard is planted on a finger of limestone jutting out of the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and forming a plateau above the Mitchell River valley.

Nestled in the Gippsland Lakes district, Lightfoot Wines are shaped by the region’s cool coastal climate. The vineyard sits on a unique ancient limestone ridge with rich Terra Rossa top soil. The site benefits from the proximity of Bass Strait, and a rain shadow cast by the Great Dividing Range. Fruit ripens with less impact from Gippsland’s typically high rainfall. The Myrtle Point Vineyard was established with a desire to combine biological farming and traditional winemaking. This approach and their distinctive site has positioned Lightfoot Wines as a standard-bearer for the region, producing wines of character, drinkability, and a distinct Gippsland identity.

The core of the Lightfoot wines range is the Mrytle Point Vineyard. Single Vineyard wines crafted to be approachable and express the unique quality of the fruit grown in the Myrtle Point Vineyard. The wines showcase the cool, coastal climate and a distinctive Gippsland style.

The single block wines are made from the best fruit, selected from the best blocks within the Myrtle Point Vineyard. Only made in the vintages where the quality is high enough. Small batches, picked and vinified as individual parcels. These wines show additional layers of complexity, structure and cellaring potential.

The limited release wines show Lightfoot’s more playful side, and the creative outlet for the winemaking team. Small-batch wines that explore winemaking techniques, experimental blends, ferments and styles. Made in very limited quantities.
