Mount Avoca

Established
1970

Mount Avoca is a certified-organic Pyrenees estate producing expressive wines with minimal environmental impact. The range spans fresh early-drinking wines through to structured estate and old-vine releases.

Mount Avoca is Australia’s most highly awarded certified organic winery, proudly based in Victoria’s Pyrenees region. Founded in 1970 by John and Arda Barry, the estate has more than 50 years of heritage, with every wine estate grown, made and bottled on site. Originally planted to Shiraz and Cabernet, the cool-climate vineyard produces small quantities of intensely flavoured fruit that is handcrafted into wines with strong varietal character and regional expression. Today, the winery is run by Matthew Barry and sons, continuing the family legacy with a focus on sustainability and quality. Winemaker David Darlow brings more than 20 years of international experience across Europe, the US, New Zealand and Australia. His background as both a fine wine retailer and chef influences his detailed and thoughtful approach to viticulture and winemaking. The estate range is now certified vegan friendly as well as certified organic. The Pyrenees Wine Region remains one of Victoria’s hidden gems, known for producing wines with depth, individuality and character. While often understated and under the radar, the region consistently delivers exceptional quality, shaped by its rugged natural beauty and unique climate.
