Citra is Abruzzo’s largest winegrowing co-operative, bringing together around 3,000 families across 6,000 hectares of vineyards. Founded in 1973 and based in Ortona, Citra combines modern technology with generations of local winegrowing knowledge. The winery’s vineyards extend across much of the province of Chieti, where varied soils, altitudes and microclimates create a wide range of fruit profiles. This diversity is central to Citra’s strength, allowing the winery to produce wines that reflect the balance, freshness and regional identity of Abruzzo. Citra focuses on Abruzzo’s native varieties, including Montepulciano, Pecorino and Trebbiano. These grapes are considered among the region’s most important varieties and form the backbone of the winery’s expression of Abruzzo. Located between rugged mountains and the Adriatic Sea, Abruzzo is one of Italy’s most naturally rich wine regions. Its mix of altitude, coastline, wildlife, ancient culture and hearty regional cuisine makes it a natural home for fresh, expressive and food-friendly wines.
