Vieux Bourg

Dominique Piron, a 14th-generation winemaker, began his journey in Morgon with his first harvest in 1971. After fifty years in winemaking, he founded ‘Maison Piron’ in 1987. In 2020, he sold the company while retaining the family vineyards in Morgon. During his career, he has been a key figure in Beaujolais, serving as president of Inter-Beaujolais and now of the cru Morgon. With Beaujolais in full revival, he came out of retirement to found Domaine du Vieux Bourg in 2021, still on the family vineyards, dedicating one last slice of his life to this beautiful profession as a simple winemaker seeking the ‘best’ rather than the ‘most.’

Domaine du Vieux Bourg’s 35 hectares of vineyards span five appellations: Beaujolais Blanc, Morgon, Chénas, Régnié, and Beaujolais Rouge. These vineyards benefit from the region’s distinctive terroir, characterised by a mix of granite, limestone, and quartz soils. The varied topography, along with the vineyards’ exposure to sun and cooling breezes, creates optimal conditions for growing Gamay. The estate’s high-altitude vineyards contribute to a slower grape ripening process, allowing the wines to develop complex flavours and aromas that are reflective of the Beaujolais’ natural environment. Certified for High Environmental Value (HEV) since 2020, the estate emphasises sustainable practices, ensuring that its viticulture is in harmony with nature, protecting biodiversity and reducing environmental impact.
