Fun, Cheeky, Sassy, Adventurous… Introducing Zonte’s Footstep, a proudly independent, innovative and free-spirited wine business. They produce wines just like them: lively, bold and full of spirit. The grapes are adventurous in style and sourced from the classic regions of McLaren Vale, Barossa, Langhorne Creek and the Adelaide Hills. Zonte’s believe in inclusion not exclusion, from the 2020 vintage, all of their wines are proudly vegan friendly.

Zonte’s Footstep take pride in their wines, from the ground up to the moment they are opened and consumed. Everything is handled with care to offer authentic, high-quality wine – the most expressive they can put in bottle. Co-Owners Anna Fisher & Brad Rey (Brad is also the vigneron) are passionate about the true character derived from the vineyards the wines come from and the close interaction with Mother Nature which they believe tells the true story of a wine.

On 15 August 2003, Zonte’s Footstep vintaged its first wines and, as is tradition in the wine industry, looked to history—and prehistory—for its name. In 1893, a vineyard was planted with Zante currants to produce table grapes for Adelaide’s growing population. By the 1920s, the vineyard was replanted with wine-producing varieties of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, which were eventually used to craft Zonte’s first wine. As a tribute to the vineyard’s journey (and due to naming regulations that prevent referencing grape varieties not in the wine), the “A” in Zante was changed to an “O,” creating Zonte’s. In 1999, a group of wine industry mates purchased the vineyard, planting Viognier, Sangiovese, and other exciting grape varieties to experiment with. While replanting, large boulders with fossilised footprints of the Diprotodon, the largest known marsupial, were discovered. This unique fossilised footstep cemented the name and symbolised the journey Zonte’s Footstep continues today.
